Tour of the Apse of the Cathedral

Discover the Cathedral of Santa María from a perspective that few visitors ever get to experience: its terraces. This tour invites you to climb to the upper levels of the cathedral and take in the view of Tortosa from a privileged vantage point, amid arches, buttresses, and the cathedral’s own architectural mass.

The Cathedral of Santa María, built between the 14th and 18th centuries, combines its original Gothic style with the unfinished Baroque façade that characterizes it. Remains of a Roman temple, a Visigothic church, and a mosque have been found beneath its foundations, bearing witness to more than 2,000 years of history layered one upon another in the same place. Climbing up to its terraces is, in a way, like rising above all those layers of history to look out over the city that inherited them.
